Testimonials

April 20/2016

I am happy to share our experience with the community.

Our son began Healthy Earth's Nursery program in 2010 when he was 2 ½ years old. We initially chose Healthy Earth because the teachers were very qualified and energetic, but also the school was close to our house. My daughters started in 2012 and 2013. To say that my children loved going to school and really bonded with the teachers would be an understatement. The program was so interactive and exciting they did not realize they were learning the basics, while at the same time developing a passion for learning.

When my son turned four, my intention was to move him to the public school system. However, I could not do it: the public system was moving to full day, and I saw all the exciting topics he was getting exposed to at Healthy Earth, in half the time. I decided to stay at Healthy Earth for JK and SK.

I believe Healthy Earth helped provide both my son and daughter (the other daughter is still at HE) with an incredibly positive attitude towards school and learning, and the knowledge/ skills to make the transition into Grade 1 easily. All of my kids have very different personalities with different strengths and weaknesses; all of them have (or continue to thrive) at Healthy Earth.

I am very grateful that we found Healthy Earth - One of the best gifts we have given our kids

The Riley Family

Our son, Miles, is a Healthy Earth success story. We had participated in a lot of recreational programs before starting Healthy Earth but none were able to give Miles the attention and environment he needed to thrive and, ultimately, prepare for kindergarten. He has always been a very spirited boy and being around several children at once was originally very difficult for him. He would become frustrated and throw himself around. Just being in a group would interfere with his ability to concentrate even though we knew him to be very caring and intelligent. He was also an early reader and we were worried his energy level would rob him of some great experiences. But Donna and the Healthy Earth teachers were on Miles' side from the start.

We started with summer camp, keeping Miles in class for as long as his attention would allow. Then we moved into the Fall program and everyone was very patient with Miles, providing him with the structure and positive re- enforcement he needed. Now Miles is almost four years old and he is doing so well he has been able to move from downstairs to being upstairs with the older children. He loves circle time, reading for his teachers and telling us about his friends. He will always have a lot of energy which we think is great but now, in addition to this, we can all see and enjoy a thoughtful little boy who loves to learn and can now take full advantage of all the wonderful things at school.

Best wishes, Tracy

We want to express our deepest admiration for Healthy Earth and the wonderful staff who tirelessly work in providing alternative and enhanced learning experiences for our daughter. The relaxed and open teaching curriculum is complimented by a warm and friendly learning environment where children are encouraged to explore personal boundaries and challenge themselves in learning every day. The curriculum is progressive and focuses on global and environmental issues raising a social consciousness amongst the children that extends well beyond the limits in traditional learning centres. The staff are personable, supportive and warm and we have always felt that our daughter is in capable and loving hands that nurture yet encourage growth. The end of year holiday concert is fun and charming; we thoroughly enjoy the multicultural festive experience that is presented to us every year by the children.

Way to go, Healthy Earth !!!!

I first learned about Healthy Earth Nursery School from my sister Brenda. Both of my nephews attended Healthy Earth and my sister would often rave about what a wonderful program it was and how much it helped both her boys prepare for public school. I attended many of the plays and concerts back when the school was at Ste. Aiden's Church. I was always impressed with the children and their creativity and obvious self-confidence. As it turned out, a few years later I had 2 little boys of my own.

My sons attended Healthy Earth for both the Nursery School program and the Enriched Kindergarten program. When I dropped the boys off in the morning it felt wonderful knowing that they were in a safe, creative and challenging environment. They thrived at Healthy Earth and both my sons were reading well before they entered grade one. At HEBNS they were given the tools they needed to succeed at school. My husband & I would delight in their soaring self-esteem and the pride they took in their schoolwork.

I truly respect Donna Watson both as a teacher and as a person. Donna has such a wonderful passion for teaching. It's rare to find a teacher that takes the time to get to know each student as an individual. Donna works with each child and tailors the program to be sure that every student continues to be challenged and working to his or her full potential. She demands a lot from her students, but always treats the children with kindness and respect. Donna Watson inspires her students to do their best at all times.

Being a musician I appreciate the importance of art, music and drama in education. At Healthy Earth the children are encouraged to express themselves through the arts. The students are exposed to art & artists, music & musicians, they sing and dance and perform in wonderful drama presentations.

When Healthy Earth moved to its present location on Queen Street East everyone in the community was so happy for Donna. The flowers and letters poured in wishing Donna well and offering support. The new school is absolutely lovely. It's such a warm, cozy atmosphere and we parents all feel very lucky to have such a wonderful place to send our little ones. I will continue to recommend HEBNS to all my friends in the community.

We feel extremely fortunate to have Healthy Earth School in our community and I know that my boys have benefited in many, many ways.

Sincerely,

Donna,

Since enrolling our daughter Lily in the Healthy Earth School's 2007 summer program, followed by her enrollment in nursery school, we have been very pleased with the results. Lily looks forward to school, loves to show us the crafts she has made, to sing the songs she has learned, and tell us about her new friends. We have been impressed with the varied curriculum (given that she is only 3 and a half, having any curriculum to comment upon is impressive!) and the quality of the teachers.

We reviewed several nurseries and daycare facilities in the Beach before choosing Healthy Earth, and we are confident we made the right decision.

Sincerely Gordon and Genny Stock

Starting at Healthy Earth was our son's first time being dropped off anywhere on his own. His first few weeks were difficult for him and even more so for us. We were so appreciative of Donna's words of wisdom on the first day reassuring us that this soon would pass and preparing us for what to expect. Sure enough before month's end we were dropping off an excited and smiling boy. We were so impressed with how his teacher's handled his early apprehension and tears when being dropped off. The staff at Healthy Earth are truly outstanding. They bring a perfect mix of structure and nurturing creating a wonderful foundation for all future learning.

Healthy Earth's kindergarten program has exceeded our expectations in every way. The school has instilled a love of learning and a strong sense of compassion in our son. It's a joy to see him so excited about his education, thanks to the passion and commitment from the Healthy Earth staff. Thank you all!

Dear Donna,

This letter is to convey the many benefits our students have encountered during their placement experiences at The Healthy Earth Bilingual Nursery School. Students have been exposed to dedicated staff whose first priority is to assess each child's unique passion and approach to learning. They have had numerous opportunities to learn how to design a learning environment that not only challenges an individual child's developmental level but also nurtures and responds to all the children's curiosity and emotional needs. Most importantly they have been involved in both emergent and teacher led curriculum. For many it has been their first time in a setting that promotes young minds to become global and critical thinkers as a life-long skill.

The small class sizes are an additional asset for students who have only been in child care settings with larger group sizes. The attention and mentoring they receive is outstanding. The result has been students who have become: more confident; more aware of the critical importance of developing problem solving skills; and more versatile in planning and implementing learning experiences in the areas of literacy and numeracy, fine/gross motor and the creative arts.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with your wonderful nursery school program.

Sincerely,
Nadia Hall, M.A., M.Ed., Diploma of Child Study

Hi Donna...

Wow. That was a lot more difficult that I thought it was going to be! It's very difficult to write only a little of our experience with you. You truly are an inspiration, and we appreciate all that you have done for us!!! Below you will find a testimonial from James and I.

Glad to hear you are on the mend!
Michelle

There is something very special about Healthy Earth. It's a feeling you get when you walk in the door and are greeted by people who care about your children. I know it's an easy thing to say, but it is something we feel each day we bring our children to this school.

We have been part of Healthy Earth for the last six years in both the Nursery and Kindergarten programs. We feel that our children have benefited from the outstanding curriculum and learning environment, giving them the confidence they need when entering into the traditional school system.

Donna not only has been a teacher to both our children, but has offered us, as parents, guidance and encouragement over the years that we have greatly appreciated.
